Frequently asked questions

What is the Danfoss GD gas detection unit used for?

The GD is a gas detection unit for industrial refrigeration safety. It continuously monitors the air for refrigerant leaks and raises alarms before gas concentrations become hazardous.

Which gases can the GD detect?

It detects commonly used refrigerants, including ammonia (electrochemical sensor) — tell us which refrigerant you need to monitor and we will select the right sensor version. It can also detect Freon and carbon dioxide.

What is the difference between GD Basic and Basic+?

Both monitor and warn of hazardous gas concentrations; they differ in sensor and function options. Tell us the gas type and the area to be monitored and we will propose the correct version. The main difference between the two is that the Basic+ has a display while the GD Basic does not.

How do the alarms work?

The units come with a factory-default 2-step alarm setup: Alarm 1 is a pre-alarm when the gas level passes the first threshold, and Alarm 2 is the main alarm at the second threshold. Both thresholds are configurable via the integrated software.

How is the GD connected to the plant control system?

Each unit connects to a central Gas Detection Controller or a PLC by analog signal or RS485 open Modbus communication; the central system converts the alarm signal into activation of alarm devices such as sirens, beacons or ventilation.

Where should gas detectors be installed?

In machinery rooms, above or around potential leak points (valve stations, flanges, compressors), and in occupied cold storage areas — following local safety regulations for the refrigerant in use.

Does the sensor compensate for temperature changes?

Yes — the digital user interface with temperature compensation gives higher sensor accuracy and reduces false alarms from temperature swings in the plant room.

Is this a genuine Danfoss product? How long is delivery?

Yes. We are an authorized Danfoss industrial refrigeration distributor in China, listed in Danfoss China’s official authorized dealer directory. All units are brand-new, genuine stock with valid warranty. We ship from China; express delivery takes about 1–2 weeks to most destinations worldwide.
