Danfoss ICLX Two-Step Solenoid Valves
Danfoss ICLX 2-step solenoid valves (ICV family) are used in suction lines where the valve must open against high differential pressure — typically after hot-gas defrost in large industrial refrigeration systems with ammonia, fluorinated refrigerants or CO2.
The valve opens in two steps: step 1 to approx. 10% capacity once the pilot solenoid valves are energized, then step 2 automatically when the differential pressure across the valve has fallen to approx. 1.25 bar. This eliminates the pressure shocks and pulsations of single-step opening.

Application note: allow sufficient closing time before opening the hot-gas supply valve — rule of thumb: 2 minutes plus a 30-second safety margin (exact time depends on temperature, pressure, refrigerant and valve size). Opening hot gas before the ICLX is fully closed can cause liquid hammer and severe valve damage.
