Danfoss AKV / AKVA Electronic Expansion Valves
AKVA electric expansion valves are designed for ammonia (R717) refrigerating plant — and also approved for R744 (CO2). They are normally controlled by a Danfoss ADAP-KOOL controller.
Valve capacity is regulated by pulse-width modulation (PWM): within a 6-second period the controller switches the coil on and off, and the open/closed time ratio sets the actual capacity (regulation range 10–100%). In some applications AKVA can serve both as expansion valve and solenoid valve.
Supplied as a component programme: separate valve, separate coil (AC or DC, terminal box or cable), and spare parts (upper part, replaceable orifice assembly, filter).

Max. working pressure PS = 42 bar (all types). Ambient: –50 – +50 °C (AKVA 10), –40 – +50 °C (AKVA 15/20). Enclosure max. IP67. Valve seat leakage < 0.02% of kv. Filters: internal replaceable 100 µm (AKVA 10); external 100 µm (AKVA 15/20).

Recommended strainer for AKVA 15 / 20
On plants with ammonia and similar industrial plants a strainer must be mounted in front of AKVA 15 and AKVA 20. AKVA 10 has a built-in strainer and an external strainer is not necessary.
